I decided to buy this gate because it is extra tall and needs to fit in an opening that is 47 1/2 inches. It is used in between our kitchen and family room to confine the children to one room. They destroy one room and the rest of the house stays in place. My last gate was 30 inches tall and my son who is 20 mos was able to learn how to open the gate on his own..This gate is perfect. It is tall and he is not able to reach and it looks nice. I would recommend this product. The only con I have was it was difficult for me and my mom to put together should of waited for hubby. The gate line has to be lined up perfectly for the gate to open and close. it was difficult for us to put together and get the gate to come together and close.

This gate is wonderful. I've used it i my in-home daycare for the past 6 months and it holds up. it's well made and worth every penny!

nice gate, but there is better
We have a kitchen with two door sized openings, one on either end. Two years ago when we moved in and our oldest child was not quite two we got two different gates. This one, and the Easy Step High-Guard Gate Color: Black. Of the two I prefer the Easy Step. They were both the same to install, and I like how this one opens both directions and how it snaps back closed is neat. But I would prefer that it stay open. If you get this gate and want it to stay open use a short bungee cord and hook one to the open side of the gate and one to the screw bar part. This will keep it open in case you need to walk through, like we do when we bring in groceries.

The thing I like the least about this style is that it is hard to close, you need to put your hand on it and push down with your whole body to get it to lock in place. And the locking pieces seem kinda flimsy being small pieces of plastic. But it hasn't broken yet. Sometimes one of the screw paces on the top (usually the one by the opening of the gate) will loosen and make it so the gate won't lock. This might be from normal use, from the dog jumping on it, or my almost 4yo playing with it.

My almost 4yo can open the Easy Step, but I am not sure if she can get this one yet (since she just uses the Easy Step if she needs in the kitchen). I know she can not close it since you have to be taller then the gate to push down and get it to lock.

Wish We Had Found This Sooner
What a wonderful find!!! I was able to install this gate on my own at the top of our staircase within 30 minutes. It probably could have taken less time but I ALWAYS read the instructions from start to finish and probably spent too much time remeasuring things before installation. My 1 year old no longer has to remain in his room when upstairs. He is now free to run up and down the hall and explore the other rooms without us worrying about him taking a tumble down the stairs.

I love that the gate swings both ways and was pleased to see that this gate came in the "extra tall" option. The two extensions that are included are a great perk even though at the present time we are not using them. However, we plan to continue to use this gate even after babyproofing the stairway is no longer necessary. As others have already mentioned, it can also be used to keep pets out of specific areas.

My only recommendation would be for the company to use metal instead of plastic for the spring latch that locks the gate in place at the top. We haven't had any problems thus far but it just seems as though plastic would break/snap more quickly over time.

I purchased this gate to keep my twins out of the kitchen. It works great! I also bought 3 more for top of stairs and for 2 doorways at the base of my stairs. Very happy with the purchase.
